The Tree House (1-2)

Creating opportunities for students to learn by teaching and mentoring each other, in the classroom and beyond.

In the Tree House, first and second graders grow into confident, curious learners, supported by a teaching team that balances challenges with care. Students build independence and a strong sense of self while also learning the value of contributing to a thriving group community. They begin using planners to organize their time and work, and they step into leadership roles both within the classroom and across the wider school.

Collaboration is at the heart of the Tree House experience. Students strengthen their small-group communication skills through team projects that are both academic and hands-on—often taking learning outdoors.

Tree House teachers encourage students to go beyond surface-level understanding, inviting them to explore subjects in depth and follow their curiosity into creative and scientific processes. Nature walks around campus offer opportunities to sharpen observation and journaling skills, while Writers Workshop provides the space and guidance for students to develop their “writerly” lives.
