The Tree House (1-2)

In the Tree House, first and second graders grow into confident, capable, and curious learners, supported by a teaching team that thoughtfully balances challenge with care. During these important years, students develop increasing independence, resilience, and a strong sense of self while discovering the joy and responsibility of contributing to a thriving classroom community. They begin using planners to organize their work and manage their time, and they embrace age-appropriate leadership opportunities within the classroom and throughout the school.

Collaboration is woven into daily learning. Through meaningful partnerships and small-group projects, students strengthen their communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Learning frequently extends beyond the classroom walls, as hands-on investigations and outdoor experiences help students make authentic connections with the world around them.

Tree House teachers nurture a love of inquiry by encouraging students to move beyond surface-level understanding and dive deeply into topics that spark their curiosity. Whether exploring scientific concepts, creating artistic projects, or asking thoughtful questions, students are empowered to think critically, wonder boldly, and persevere through the learning process.

Regular nature walks across our wooded campus provide rich opportunities to sharpen observation skills, cultivate mindfulness, and document discoveries through sketching and nature journaling. During Writers Workshop, students develop their unique voices as authors, building confidence as they write, revise, share, and celebrate their work within a supportive community of writers.

The Tree House is a place where children discover that learning is an adventure—one filled with curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and growing confidence every step of the way.
