Independent and small-group learning that nurtures curiosity and allows students to explore their own interests.
Journey of a Sea Otter (4-5)
Lodge West
In Lodge West, learning comes alive. Students dive into hands-on, experiential projects that turn curiosity into discovery, exploring ideas in ways that make the curriculum meaningful. They collaborate across grades, sharing insights and building friendships while developing critical social and teamwork skills. With opportunities to take risks, think deeply, and pursue their own questions, students explore the world of knowledge through independent and small-group projects that spark creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
The Campus as a Classroom
Education in the Lodge is extended beyond the classroom. Students have the opportunity to learn amid Silverwood’s beautiful 17-acre wooded campus and at off-campus educational sites. In addition to our exciting science education, other subjects are explored on these rustic grounds.
“Edventuring”
Each spring, Silverwood students set off on an unforgettable “Edventure” to the Mt. Rainier Institute. For a full week, they leave the familiar behind to sleep away from home, explore towering forests, investigate streams, and uncover the secrets of the natural world through hands-on science. Beyond the thrill of discovery, this adventure nurtures independence, teamwork, and resilience, giving students a chance to grow in confidence and curiosity. Back in the classroom, the lessons and excitement of the trip continue to inspire learning, connecting field experiences with everyday studies and sparking a lifelong love for the natural world.
Project-Based Learning
Silverwood’s integrated curriculum and project-based approach encourages students to make meaningful connections across subjects, moving beyond rote memorization to engage their unique skills and interests. Literature leaps off the page as students spend a night under the stars, immersing themselves in the experiences of Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet and stepping into the shoes of the characters. In ancient cultural studies, students bring history to life by participating in hands-on rituals—like preparing their own chicken “mummies”—to explore the practices and beliefs of civilizations long past.

“As tomorrow’s leaders, Silverwood students graduate as independent, responsible, and compassionate global citizens, ready to make a positive impact.”
