School History

Silverwood was founded in 1984 by a group of parents from The Farm Montessori who wanted to extend the rich, hands-on educational experience they had enjoyed in preschool. After several moves, the school found its permanent home in 2001 on an old farm along Central Valley Road Northwest. In 2023, Silverwood’s Board of Trustees, in partnership with the Head of School, expanded the program to include 7th and 8th grades, continuing the school’s tradition of growth and opportunity.

The Heart of Silverwood

At the heart of the Silverwood experience are our remarkable teachers and staff. Whether inside the classroom, exploring the woods, on field trips, or during overnights, our dedicated professionals care deeply for every child. Students spend their days surrounded by teachers who are passionate about teaching, and our small class sizes allow for meaningful, individualized connections. With a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, our teachers bring creativity, expertise, and enthusiasm to every lesson and activity.

Rooted in Community

At Silverwood, parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, friends, and neighbors all play a vital role in supporting our students and programs. Some families have joined us through Navy relocations, while others have called Kitsap home for generations. What unites us is a shared passion for our children and a deep commitment to their education. When we come together, there is genuine joy in connection, and friendships that start between students often blossom into lifelong bonds among families—even long after their children have grown. We invite you to explore our community and meet some of the families who make Silverwood so special.

Board of Trustees

Silverwood’s governing body, the Board of Trustees, is made up of current and former parents who generously volunteer their time to ensure the school’s long-term success. Meetings are open to the public and listed on our events calendar. The Board typically meets once a month for about two hours in the evening.

Connections that Inspire

Silverwood thrives through partnerships with community organizations near and far. These connections help us bring our mission to life—nurturing compassionate citizens—and allow our students and families to engage meaningfully with the world around them. We’re also proud members of professional associations that share our passion for advancing independent education.
